World Challenge
St Mary’s has worked with World Challenge since 2004. The company offers support over a 2-year cycle to fundraise and train for an expedition to a developing nation. Expeditions can be 3-4 weeks in duration. The ethos of World Challenge is to put the young people in charge of their own expeditions - to grow via experiential learning and acquire news skills to build maturity and resilience.
The expeditions
Expeditions normally include 4 phases:
Acclimatisation phase – getting to know the country and local environment and culture.
Challenge phase – usually a mountainous or jungle trek.Community engagement phase – helping to make a positive change to help local communities.
R&R Phase – activities such as Snorkelling, Safari, Zip Line, Kayaking, White Water Rafting and visiting local landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, Buddhist monasteries and wildlife reserves.
